Holy Habit 6 – Trust God with Your Money
Series: Holy Habits – An Invitation to Friendship with Jesus
Summary
Habit # 6 – Trust God with Your Money (Matthew 6:19-24)
What if you could push a button that would…
- Give you stronger faith
- Increase your contentment
- Increase your gratitude
- Increase your joy
Matthew 6:19
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Matthew 6:20
20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
Matthew 6:21
21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:24a
24a “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
Matthew 6:24b
24b You cannot serve God and wealth.
Love for money reduces love for Jesus.
The real indicator of whether or not God has your heart is whether or not He has your money.
Jesus is concerned about our relationship to possessions b/c He is concerned about our relationship to Him.
1 Timothy 6:6
6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.
1 Timothy 6:7
7 For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.
1 Timothy 6:8
8 If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.
1 Timothy 6:9
9 But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.
1 Timothy 6:10
10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Matthew 6:22
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is [k]clear, your whole body will be full of light.
Matthew 6:23
23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Money is to be used, not loved. God is to be loved, not used.
When we love money we will use God. When we love God we will use money
We will either love money and use God or we will love God and use money.
Application
- Give
- Save
- Live
Jesus isn’t interested in our money, He’s interested in our hearts.
God blesses the sacrifice of your gift, not the size of your gift.
