The Power of Gratitude

Series: Stand Alone Sermons

Summary

3 Desires that Drive Our Discontentment    Bigger…Newer…Better…

Philippians 4:10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all  comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Central Truth: Contentment grows where gratitude flows.

Every good thing I have is from God.

I will not let what I want keep me from appreciating what I have.

Application – 3 Ways to Let Gratitude Flow

  1. Take inventory of your blessings.
  1. Flip your focus.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

  1. Say thank you.
