The Incarnation Reveals God’s Faithfulness

Series: Christmas 2023

Summary

Incarnation – Deity in human or physical form.

Colossians 2:9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

Isaiah 53:1-7
Who has believed our message?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
And like a root out of parched ground;
He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth;
Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.

1 Peter 2:21-24
For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

Central Truth: The incarnation shows us God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises.

Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

Two Crucial Clarifications
1. God is always faithful, but He’s seldom fast.
2. God is faithful to fulfill His promises, not our prayers.

Application
1. You focus on WHO God is and WHAT God has promised. Let God focus on HOW and WHEN He’ll work.

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

2. Pray for patience where God has made a promise and peace where He hasn’t.
